Read the current requirement
Placement discussions often mix up matches played, matches won, and season medal progress. These are different measures. Begin with the requirement shown in your current game client and any relevant Valve announcement. Do not assume that a package described as ten matches will satisfy a requirement expressed in wins.
Record the season identifier and the exact wording of your calibration status. If the client shows completed wins against a required total, store both values. Keep the total configurable in any external tracker. A rule copied from an old guide should not silently override a later game update.
Count progress in separate columns
A useful log has a date, map, match result, calibration wins completed, and a short note. Count a draw as a draw. Do not turn it into half a win unless an explicitly documented rule for the measure you are tracking says to do so.
For a requirement based on wins, the remaining amount is the required wins minus completed qualifying wins, with a floor of zero. Matches played tells you the effort so far; it is not interchangeable with progress toward that requirement. If a tracking service cannot verify a result, label the entry as manual.
Prepare before the first game
Revisit a small set of positions and utility you already understand. The start of calibration is a poor moment to adopt an unfamiliar role solely because you expect a larger number afterward. Agree with your party about preferred positions, communication, and a simple default plan.
Check your connection, audio, and control settings in a practice environment first. Keep the preparation repeatable and short enough that you will use it consistently. The purpose is to arrive attentive and comfortable, not to exhaust yourself before the matches that matter to you.
Review decisions without reverse engineering a hidden formula
After each session, identify one decision you can improve. Did you repeatedly fight without a teammate nearby? Did an early purchase leave you without utility for your intended job? Did unclear information cause a late rotation?
Keep these observations separate from guesses about a hidden calibration formula. A single result does not establish how the system weighted your individual performance. Comparing previous and new ratings also requires context about the season and games played; it cannot prove that a particular action produced a particular adjustment.
Evaluate any paid help carefully
A legitimate training session should specify what the coach observes, what you receive afterward, and who controls the account. Useful deliverables include a reviewed demo, two practice priorities, and clear next-session goals. A promised placement rating is not a substitute for a defined service.
Do not share your password, Steam Guard code, or session cookies. Ask for your evidence to be retained with the correct season. Valve's medal announcements may describe their own win thresholds, but those should never be presented as placement requirements without a direct current source. Verify the client requirement again after a significant update and preserve the old log rather than rewriting it.
